Volunteering is a Work of Art

SALT LAKE CITY: The Utah Arts Festival depends on more than 1,000 volunteers every year to ensure every visitor’s experience is as comprehensive and fulfilling as possible. Each year, new volunteers join, working with many individuals who have helped coordinate and facilitate activities at the Festival for 10, 20, 25 or even more than 30 years. There are some volunteers who have even served longer, helping maintain the Festival’s 42-year legacy.

Specific volunteer opportunities this year include set-up crew, workshop assistants in the Arts and Technology venue, beverage servers, Fear No Film attendants, face painting and tear-down crew. Age restrictions may apply for certain positions. Every venue at the Festival benefits from having volunteers on hand.

To volunteer at the 2018 Utah Arts Festival, to be held June 21-24 at Library Square, visit uaf.org/volunteers to learn about all of the opportunities, to help build and run this event that celebrates artistic expression, and to sign up for a shift today. Festival organizers encourage individuals to coordinate a group of family members, friends, neighbors, co-workers and others for a rewarding volunteer experience.

Here are a few examples of how volunteers can make the Festival experience enriching for all visitors:

Volunteer Your Inner Child at the Art Yard
The Utah Arts Festival needs adults and young people who still are kids at heart to help children decorate, paint and add to the collaborative sculptures and onsite installations in the Art Yard.

Be a watchful eye as an Artists Marketplace booth sitter
Booth sitters monitor an artist’s booth while the artist takes a short break. This is a great opportunity to support and get to know participating artists. There are more than 170 artists in the marketplace.

Welcome attendees as a festival greeter
Festival greeters assist at the entrance locations and information booth by welcoming patrons, distributing maps and providing general assistance.

Visit uaf.org/volunteers and sign up for a volunteer shift today.
